Movie Plot

Title: The Dollhouse

Plot: 200 years ago, Julia died waiting for the dolly her daddy promised her. Now, anytime a new family moves in, she kills them and makes them her dolls.
Tag Line: "Come play with me."

I chose "The Great Gatsby" as a great movie poster. It's filled with symbolism, just like the book. The story itself, and the movie, are filled with double meanings. Here, the tux is also a glass, and a spotlight on Gatsby and Daisy dancing. The sharp black contrast also allows the olde-time font to shine through. I also like how the city line and car are crisply laid out at the bottom. I personally see the pocket as a house as well, where the lavish parties Gatsby threw are held. The poster gives off a 1920s feel, with simple black and white, but it is so bold. I personally love posters that are simple like this. It doesn't force your eye to see everything at once. They allow you to dissect the picture, whilst not giving away everything at once. The movie is glamorous, and so is this poster.

The Master

I like how grateful and humble Dustin is. His first thought is to say how he came up as a small fry who was given an opportunity to join the big guys. He acknolwledges that, yes he already had the passion, but was given the motivation and the means by the people he worked for. It’s nice to see. Dustin is also very optimistic and makes lemondade out of lemons. Being forced to choose to go on his own or be lost, he made something of himself.

Dustin is a team player, and made everyone’s life easier by thinking to take a simple picture of the magnolia instead of creating one from scratch. Dustin is right about making connections being important. Networking was the first thing I was told to do once I decide a career. For the There Will Be Blood poster, I think they took the best route by making a bunch of very different poster sketches, and that it isn’t surprising they came back to an original idea.

I have never seen The Master, but with how beautifully he describes the film, it makes me interested. I like the symbolism of water being about drowning/failing AND healing. I don’t particularly like the first poster though. His description of the teaser poster versus final is brilliant, comparing it to a wedding invite. I am glad to read he also hits a creative block!

Non-Functional Item and Functional Item Project #1

        For my non-functional item, I have chosen to create heels for dogs. Heels are a challenge for women, who stand upright, to walk in without help. I speak from experience, here. I have spent time before a a fancy occassion practicing walking in heels. The last wedding I attended, I had to lean on my boyfriend to walk without falling on my face. Dogs may look adorable with accessories such as sweaters and snow booties, but those are comfortable for the dog.. most of the time. I have seen dogs walk like they had gum on the bottom of their paws with just the flat-based booties. Putting heels on a dog guarantees them feeling unhappy, unbalanced, and unsafe.

        For my functional item, I have created a dog tag that has a GPS tracker embedded inside. There is a chip already created that is embedded inside dogs themselves that contains the owner's contact information and address, but one cannot locate the dog. The chip only gives information to read once the dog has been found. The dog tag I created acts as a sort of low-jack for your pup. If they run off to play with their furry friends, or if some awful person steals them, you can track them down by using Google Maps so they are safe.
