I like how grateful and humble Dustin is. His first thought
is to say how he came up as a small fry who was given an opportunity to join the
big guys. He acknolwledges that, yes he already had the passion, but was given
the motivation and the means by the people he worked for. It’s nice to see.
Dustin is also very optimistic and makes lemondade out of lemons. Being forced
to choose to go on his own or be lost, he made something of himself.
Dustin is a team player, and made everyone’s life easier by
thinking to take a simple picture of the magnolia instead of creating one from
scratch. Dustin is right about making connections being important. Networking
was the first thing I was told to do once I decide a career. For the There Will
Be Blood poster, I think they took the best route by making a bunch of very
different poster sketches, and that it isn’t surprising they came back to an
original idea.
I have never seen The Master, but with how beautifully he
describes the film, it makes me interested. I like the symbolism of water being
about drowning/failing AND healing. I don’t particularly like the first poster
though. His description of the teaser poster versus final is brilliant,
comparing it to a wedding invite. I am glad to read he also hits a creative block!
